From little
acorns... mighty oaks grow! This saying is one I remember my grandpa
telling me on a visit to the farm - when I was little & was pouting
over being one of the youngest of the cousins, and I did not have
anyone my age to play with. He would encourage me to not pout over
being one of the little ones, because “from little acorns....”!
Well, it’s been
several years since my heart-to-hearts with my grandpa, but the saying
has stayed with me. I have also found it to be a great truth,
& throughout my design & teaching careers, I have found myself
using the saying to encourage those who are beginning, as well as my
students who are striving to accomplish new things. Little steps. . .
step-by-step will grow into beautiful projects we never imagined we
could do!
I began quilting
16 years ago, as I always loved the quilts that both of my grandma’s
had left us, and that is how I started - with little steps. Throughout
the years I have found that it is this “little acorns” philosophy that
has continued to encourage me in my journey as a quilter, designer,
& teacher. Over the years, my love for quilts and handwork
has grown, & in the past year it has also led to working with wool,
and hand-dying wool to create the beautiful softly mottled wools - in
the colors that I couldn’t seem to find enough of.
From quilt designs
to woolie & punchneedle patterns, Acorn Quilt & Gift Company is
dedicated to providing the inspiration and products for quilters - from
those who are just beginning, or those who are experienced & “well
seasoned” - For we all have in common our love with the
making and treasuring these precious “works-of-heart”.
